The Story of Wu Wei by Feona Lee Jones

The Story of Wu Wei is a condensed, one act English-language chamber opera reflecting the struggle of the composer's mother to survive under the Mao Zedong Regime in the 1950's. A target due to their class, religion, and education, Wu Wei's family becomes one of the millions to lose everything at the hands of the Communist Party of China, Wu Wei being the lone survivor.

Everyone loves a player, and no one is more notorious than Don Giovanni. Based on the legend of the fictional Don Juan, Mozart's Don Giovanni follows the famous libertine to his end. Comedy, sex, murder, love, and beautiful music. Additional performance April 3 at 2:00 pm.

Musical Theatre Showcase: Something in the So Big Sky

The Fall 2015 artists perform staged scenes and musical excerpts from works by Bernstein, Sondheim, Rodgers, Loesser, and others.

The artists are performing a program of favorites from the Musical Theatre canon in a free presentation. Musical directed by Michael Horsley and directed by Michael Mohammed, Something in the So Big Sky features scenes from nine musicals that draw upon other works for inspiration, from the plays of Shakespeare to nineteenth century operas.

Three men all pursue the same woman: the old master apothecary Sempronio, the young and obnoxious Volpino, and the clever but timid Mengone.  Each suitor tries to outwit the others while Grilletta pulls strings of her own in order to marry the man she loves.

Bay Area Opera Collaborative places the Goldini libretto in Albuquerque, New Mexico inside of the Breaking Bad universe.  Walter White, Saul Goodman, and Jesse Pinkman all vie for the young Jane Margolis' heart.

Turandot

Puccini's final opera about love and death in Peking, China.  A strange prince wanders into the kingdom of Princess Turandot, a vicious beauty with a reputation of having would-be suitors beheaded.  The prince falls in love with Turandot and pledges to win her hand, or die.  You will recognize the prince's aria, "Nessun Dorma," a favorite of sports teams, car companies, and talent show competitors as well as international opera singers.
